NeumaCare turns the environment into an active driver of wellbeing

L’Hospitalet de l’Infant (Tarragona, Spain), September 15, 2026 — NeumaCare, the Catalan healthtech startup that adapts the sensory environment to make hospital stays more humane, is marking its first year with a working proof of concept and a usability test carried out with Althaia, a hospital in Manresa. The company is finalising its first two clinical pilots, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, and is preparing a crowdfunding campaign for NeumaPod 2, the device in its home line, for the end of the year. In 2027 it plans to open a €300,000 pre-seed round.

A new way of looking at the hospital environment

NeumaCare is a Catalan healthtech startup whose mission is to make the hospital experience more humane and person-centred by adapting the sensory environment.

Its approach starts from a simple idea: the environment is not a neutral backdrop to care. Ambient conditions are part of a patient’s everyday life and can directly shape how they experience their time in hospital.

The problem: illness is not the only challenge

Hospitalised patients face a double challenge: treating their illness and coping with an environment that often gets in the way of their recovery.

Strong smells, constant noise, harsh lighting and other environmental stressors have a direct impact on patients’ health and on their rest, stress, anxiety and comfort during their stay.

At NeumaCare, we turn the environment into an active driver of wellbeing. We believe that adapting it to each person’s needs can help create a hospital experience that is more humane and more focused on the patient.

The approach: sense, adapt, sustain

To meet this need, NeumaCare is developing an intelligent environmental ecosystem that uses adaptive sensory experiences to create healthier, human-centred spaces.

1. 01. Sense

   The system includes a data layer that detects and interprets both the patient’s physiological state and the conditions around them. This gives a clearer picture of the context at any given moment, and an objective basis for personalising the sensory experience.

2. 02. Adapt

   It uses hardware devices that modulate the main sensory stimuli: sound, light and scent. Their design draws on scientific evidence from disciplines such as music therapy, aromatherapy and chromotherapy.

   Based on the information collected, these devices tailor stimuli and sensory experiences to each patient’s needs and to the conditions in the room.

3. 03. Sustain

   Software makes it possible to launch, create and manage the different sensory experiences, and to set up sessions and protocols for each situation.

   This layer gives continuity to each intervention, manages the devices centrally and rolls out sensory experiences in a structured way across the care setting.

Sensory AI

NeumaCare integrates an artificial intelligence engine that adapts stimuli and protocols to each patient’s physiological and emotional state.

Through its data integration layer, the system can read information from both the patient and the environment and act on it, adjusting the sensory experience to what is needed at each moment.

This ability to interpret data and turn it into a response in the environment is taking the system towards an approach that is more personalised, more adaptive and more focused on patients and their needs.

Where NeumaCare stands today

NeumaCare is now one year old. Over that time it has shaped the concept and built the technology behind the solution, reaching the proof-of-concept (POC) stage with a working system that has allowed it to start validating the technology in real-world settings.

During this first year the company has also completed its main market research and validation studies and run a usability test with Althaia hospital in Manresa, which gave it its first insights into how the technology fits into, and is used within, a care setting.

The project has also received several awards, recognitions and nominations, including the Premis Emprèn awards from the Diputació de Tarragona, the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Programa Primer, the Premis Tic Sud awards from Redessa and a place at 4YFN (4 Years From Now), alongside other initiatives in the entrepreneurial and healthtech ecosystem.

So far, NeumaCare’s development has been funded mainly by the founding team’s own resources. The project is now awaiting the outcome of several public funding calls and grant programmes that would help it accelerate the next stages of development and validation.

On the hospital side, the company is finalising the first two clinical pilots for its NC-Healthcare line, which are scheduled to run in the fourth quarter of 2026.

These pilots will be the first deployment of NeumaCare’s technology in care settings within a clinical validation framework. They will generate data on how it is used, its usability and its impact, and help refine the sensory protocols based on real-world experience.

In parallel, NeumaCare continues to develop NC-Home, its line for the home. The company is completing development of NeumaPod 2, with the aim of launching a crowdfunding campaign in late 2026 and reaching its first early adopters.

This first community of users will provide meaningful data on usage, traction and market validation, along with feedback to keep adapting and evolving NeumaCare’s value proposition for the home.

With results from the first NC-Healthcare pilots and early validation of NC-Home, the next major step will be a pre-seed funding round in the first half of 2027, aiming to raise €300,000 to accelerate technology development, broaden clinical validation and bring NeumaCare’s product lines to market.
